vegas vacation preflight and planes trains and automobiles

okay let's look back way way back to Monday when I finished work...I got home went to pilates and then came home too exhausted to think beyond damn I am so not ready to go that I think I will try to sew some more on my sundress.

then came Tuesday...got up early went and got my skin fine tuned and did some last minute shopping but found nothing helpful...got dressed up and head to the home town to help get lil' sister ready and attend an another event with my mom...drove home late and thought damn I still not ready to go.

so then it was Wednesday woke up early again determined to be ready...gave up on the dress...went to look for jeans and a new suitcase as I was now sure I need more room...found both and ran back home to pack like the wind...ended up bringing a lot of things I didn't need but when my sister's BF came to pick me up it all worked out.

we got to the airport on time took off our shoes so customs could x-ray them and then filled out our forms so we could depart...we took the little plane that could to Seattle on got off and were totally amazed at Seattle airport and the train between gates...we then got on a regular 737 and made our way to Vegas! we arrived late took a train again to the baggage claim and then a bus to car and were on our way to our hotel!  I got a little scared with all the reflective lane bumps on the road and ended up in the wrong lane and got pulled over by a police lady but she let me go after determining that I was too awestruck to care whether she gave me a ticket or not.

next I found parking in a larger than life miracle and we walked the 6 miles to the front desk at the Rio...all good we had arrived and our room was on the 16th floor in the Masquerade tower!

planning and plotting

So I have been obsessively planning my trip to Vegas and while I love every minute of it I can't help but think of how fun it would be to just be slightly more impulsive about the whole adventure.

I think I have most of my clothes in place and I finally decided that I would just look for a swimsuit while I was there because shipping to Canada is just a trial.

Speaking of pain though I waited too long to buy this pair of Stuart Weitzman espadrilles and now my size is gone . I'm consoling myself with the idea that they were out of my price range anyway but I just feel like I'll never find another more perfect sandahl no matter how long I look.

Shoes hate me no matter what kind I buy I usually have to break them in and suffer through getting blisters so if I don't find some good sandahls soon it will be be a painful trip as I need to start the breaking-in/healing process now.

However, nothing and I do mean nothing has ever kicked my sewing gene into overdrive like planning this trip. Check out these cute patterns I just picked up on etsy:

this one is from http://www.etsy.com/shop/ahandfulofravens located in Canada :)

Getting around to sewing them will be another matter but I they were close to the same price I would have paid for some ugly new pattern so I felt like I couldn't pass up the chance to try my hand at some authentic vintage sewing.

abominable snowman and shaggy da

more things I took for granted as a child - abominable snowman it never made sense so I imagined that abominal this case was not meant to mean awful but perhaps had something to do with snow or maybe it was a different word and I had misheard for years I wasn't sure whether my friend's dad's name was Ray or Gray(he did have gray hair) ...so to use the I looked it up and found out that it was meant to be abominable at which point I felt extra confused because he never seemed abominable to me just a more robust cousin of Frosty in my imagination but it was good for some internal "disabiguation" since all these questions are nowadays answered by the Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yeti

My life consists of a lot of things like this. Just recently I realized that the Shaggy DA was not just random letters District Attorney meant nothing to me as a kid - I'm not sure I would have even realized an attourney was a lawyer soo...DA meant nothing and after years of taking the name of the movie for granted it dawned on me that he must have been a district attorney and I thought well see you can learn something from TV because if it hadn't been for years of Law and Order I doubt I would have ever put it all together -we don't have them in Canada.

secret surprise sneak peak and gossip

So I just went for coffee and now I am super happy. While walking there I spotted my favorite coffee guy talking to someone and he winked at me. Coffee guy and I have been separated for sometime as he works for the coffee place I hate the most but on my way out of the ubiquitous coffee empire I <3

Now on to my first post with a picture...I am working on a new and ambitious project for me. I designed the thing myself and if it doesn't suck I am going to have to award myself the scarlet slipper of honor. So without further ado here is phase one in all its cuteness!

when I was little

When I was little I remember feeling bad for grown-ups that they had no space at the end of their beds....I always kept an army of friends at the end of my bed which were never disturbed because I couldn't even yet dream of being long enough to reach the end of my bed. My bed always felt like an island aided by the fact that for a time it was the top bunkbed and thus even more it's own kingdom. It was like the ice cream sandwich on the Candyland board game and when needed more reassurance that I was princess material I tucked in the top sheet all perfect and slid underneath it and slept with my hair arrayed on either side but don't tell my sisters ;)
